Fisher Cats 3, Patriots 2

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — The New Hampshire Fisher Cats, the Double-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, prevailed in their first extra-inning game of the season against the Somerset Patriots on Thursday night, defeating the defending Eastern League champions 3-2 at TD Bank Ballpark.

Trevor Schwecke drove in the go-ahead run for the Fisher Cats (7-5) with an RBI single in the 10th off Michael Giacone (0-1), bringing home Steward Berroa from third. It was Schwecke’s third hit of the night.

Sebastian Espino grounded a two-run single that deflected off second base and caromed into shallow left-center field, scoring Will Robertson and Luis De Los Santos. The hit tied up the score 2-2 in the fourth and it was his first RBIs of the season.

Luis De Los Santos went 4-for-4 at the plate, including a double in the second. It’s his fourth multi-hit game of the season. He now leads the Fisher Cats in hits (15) and doubles (5).

Andrew Bash pitched well out of the bullpen, striking out three Somerset (6-6) hitters in 2.1 innings while stranding four runners. Alejandro Melean tossed 2.2 innings of relief with four strikeouts. Troy Watson (1-0) got out of a bases-loaded jam in the ninth and retired three straight batters in the 10th.

The Fisher Cats continue their road trip Friday against Somerset at 6:35 pm. LHP Jimmy Robbins (1-1, 2.79 ERA) will get the start for New Hampshire against RHP Clayton Beeter (1-1, 0.82 ERA) for the Patriots.
