Division II Tournament Bracket
Wednesday’s first Division II semifinal will feature the two programs that met in last year’s Division II championship game: second-seeded Hollis-Brookline and third-seeded St. Thomas. Hollis-Brookline won that matchup, 7-2. … Hollis-Brookline also beat St. Thomas 11-9 in Dover during the regular season. St. Thomas had a 4-1 lead through four innings of that contest, but the Cavaliers scored four runs in the fifth, five in the sixth and one in the seventh. Hollis-Brookline’s Jonah Winsor went 3-for-4 and drove in four runs in the win. Designated hitter Charlie Covert led the St. Thomas offense that day with three hits and four RBIs. … Hollis-Brookline and St. Thomas each had a bye in the preliminary round. The Cavaliers advanced by beating seventh-seeded Bow, 3-1, in the quarterfinals. St. Thomas posted a 20-0 victory over sixth-seeded John Stark in the quarters. … In the other half of the brack Plymouth upset top-seeded Hanover, 8-6, in the quarterfinals; and Kingswood reached the semifinals by knocking off fifth-seeded Souhegan, 12-2. … Plymouth entered the tournament on a five-game losing streak, but built some momentum by beating ninth-seeded Coe-Brown 4-0 in the preliminary round. Hanover, which beat Plymouth 11-1 during the regular season, committed seven errors against the Bobcats and lost despite holding a 4-0 lead. Plymouth stranded 15 runners in the win. … Souhegan had won 10 of its previous 11 games before losing to Kingswood. The Knights collected 16 hits in the victory. … Hollis-Brookline’s Alex Razzaboni was named the Division II Player of the Year. … First Team All-State selections who are in the semifinals: Tim Avery (St. Thomas), Charlie Hale (Hollis-Brookline), Johnny Flaherty (Plymouth), Sam Grondin (St. Thomas), James Yarling (Kingswood), Zak Lussier (Hollis-Brookline), Devon Paquette (St. Thomas) and Jack Lager (Hollis-Brookline).
