Hampstead resident Brady Day was taken in the 12th round (No. 369 overall) by the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday, the final day of the 2023 Major League Baseball Draft.
Day, an infielder who plays at Kansas State, graduated from Pinkerton Academy.
After hitting .284 as a freshman, Day, an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention selection, had an explosive sophomore season, when he hit .356 with nine doubles, one triple and three home runs. His .356 batting average led the Wildcats offense as he was also the team leader in hits (69) and walks (49), including a .381 average in conference action.
Day generated a team-high 20 multi-hit games and reached base in 36 consecutive contests. He was the second toughest player in the league to strikeout, striking out 22 times in 194 at-bats (8.8 at-bats per strikeout).
