Nashua’s Coffey Post was limited to six hits and suffered a 3-1 loss to Ellsworth, Maine, Wednesday in the opening game of the American Legion Baseball Northeast Regional played at Fitton Field in Worcester, Mass.
Nashua took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a run-scoring single by Ryan Haskell, but Colin Sullivan collected a two-run single in the third inning to give Maine a lead it wouldn’t relinquish.
Maine starting pitcher Craig Burnett allowed a run on four hits in 4.1 innings. He walked four and had one strikeout. Peter Keblinsky tossed 2.2 innings of shutout relief. Keblinsky gave up two hits, walked to and struck out two.
Maine capped the scoring in the fifth when Keblinsky singled, stole second and scored on Burnett’s single.
Devin Sawyer had two singles for Nashua.
Nashua will play the loser of Wednesday’s game between Connecticut and Massachusetts on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. The loser of that contest will be eliminated from the double-elimination tournament.
