Malgeri returns to Double-A

Stratham’s Ben Malgeri will begin the 2024 season with the Erie Seawolves, the Detroit Tigers’ Double-A affiliate in the Eastern League.

Malgeri, an Exeter High School graduate, is an outfielder who helped Erie win the Eastern League championship last season. He batted .233 (80 for 344) with 13 home runs, 34 RBIs and 15 stolen bases in 99 games with Erie last season, after being promoted from High-A West Michigan.

Malgeri began his college career at Holy Cross, transferred to Northeastern and was selected by the Tigers in the 18th round of the 2021 MLB Draft.

Erie is scheduled to play at the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Aug. 6-11.

— Exeter’s Cody Morissette, one of Malgeri’s teammates when both were at Exeter High School, will begin the season with the Double-A Pensacola Blue Wahoos of the Southern League. Morissette, an infielder, hit .223 with 16 home runs and 52 RBIs in 105 games with Pensacola after he was promoted from Single-A Jupiter last season. Miami took Morissette with the 52nd pick in the 2021 MLB Draft.

— The Los Angeles Angels sent Windham’s Brandon Dufault to the Rocket City Trash Pandas, the team’s Double-AA affiliate in the Southern League. Dufault, a right-handed pitcher, will begin the season on the 60-day disabled list. Dufault was 1-0 with one save and a 5.66 ERA in 16 games (20.2 innings) with Rocket City last season.
