MANSFIELD, Mass. — Senior Jorge Burgos (Santo Domingo, D.R.) of the Southern New Hampshire University baseball team was selected as the NE10 Player of the Week and freshman Nater Wachter (Concord, N.H.) claimed Rookie of the Week honors, both for the period ending April 28, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Burgos put together an absurd week at the plate for SNHU, as the Penmen went 4-0. Burgos hit .632 (12-19) with three home runs, 12 RBIs and six runs scored. Burgos, who slashed a ridiculous .696/1.316/2.012, had seven of his 12 hits go for extra bases, while he also drew four walks and swiped three bags. He had three or more hits in three of the four games, including Sunday’s 16-2 win over Saint Michael’s College when he went 5-for-6 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored. In Saturday’s doubleheader sweep of the Purple Knights, he finished 6-for-9 with two home runs, eight RBIs, four runs scored and three walks, as he homered in each game – tying the program’s single-season record in the opener, before establishing a new mark with his 15th long-ball of the year in game two. The 15 home runs are the most in the NE10 since 2019.
Wachter went 8-for-16 (.500) with a home run, 15 RBIs and six runs scored. Wachter also doubled three times, tripled and drew five walks, as he put together a slash line of .583/1.000/1.583. He had multiple hits in three of the four games and collected at least four RBIs in three of the four contests. Wachter went 3-for-5 with a home run, five RBIs, three runs scored, two doubles and a walk in a 22-3 win in game two of Saturday’s doubleheader with Saint Michael’s, and then finished 2-for-4 with five more RBIs and a run scored in Sunday’s 16-2 victory over the Purple Knights.
Burgos leads the NE10 in home runs (15), RBI (52) and total bases (111), while sitting third in slugging percentage (.698), fourth in runs (42), sixth in stolen bases (16), seventh in hits (53), 11th in doubles (11) and 15th in batting (.333). Wachter is tied with Burgos for the league lead in RBI (52), and ranks fourth in walks (31), fifth in home runs (8), 10th in runs (36), 11th in doubles (11), 12th in total bases (81) and slugging (.587) and 18th in on-base percentage (.433).
Burgos, Wachter and the Penmen (28-15, 17-7 NE10) are back in action Tuesday (April 30) at 3:30 p.m. when they play host to Post University at Penmen Field.
