NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Colby-Sawyer baseball team fell to Mitchell in the final game of Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) pod play by a 7-1 final. This concludes the Chargers historic season, when they won 25 games for the second time in program history.
Rapid Recap:
- The Mariners took an early advantage with a two-run inning in the first on an RBI triple by Robbie DelaCruz and a sacrifice fly. Mitchell added one more in the third inning on a sacrifice fly to score DelaCruz. Colby-Sawyer got on the board as Sean Roeger (Salem, N.H.) doubled home graduate student Cooper O’Brien (Vergennes, Vt.) in the top half of the fourth. Mitchell tacked on another run in the bottom of the frame with a home run by Owen Robbins to lead 4-1 headed into the middle innings.
- The Mariners extended the lead further in the fifth and sixth with a two-run blast by Michael Ficocelli and a RBI ground out to push the lead to 7-1. The Chargers bats stayed silent to conclude the game.
On the Mound:
- Senior Zach Rogers (Mashpee, Mass.) got the start going one inning allowing two runs. Sophomore Justin Powers (Peabody, Mass.) was next tossing four innings allowing four runs with three strikeouts. Junior Jack Mullen (Norfolk, Mass.) was next tossing two innings of work allowing a single run with a pair of strikeouts. First year Hayden Goerlich (Amherst, N.H.) finished the game going one shutout inning.
At the Plate:
- Sophomore Dylan Watson (Byfield, Mass.) led the offense going 2-for-4. Roeger went 1-for-4 with a double and a RBI. O’Brien added a 0-for-1 day with three walks and a run scored.
Up Next:
The Chargers conclude their season with a 25-17 record ending the year over the .500 mark for the first time since 1999.
