Derry resident Liam Doyle, a starting pitcher at the University of Tennessee, could be the first overall selection in the 2025 MLB Draft, according to The Athletic’s Keith Law. Law released his rankings of the top 30 prospects for July’s draft Tuesday.
Doyle, who throws left-handed, is 2-0 with a 0.61 ERA with 34 strikeouts in 14⅔ innings in his first three starts for the Volunteers this season. He has allowed one run on six hits and three walks.
NOTE: Doyle was Tennessee’s starting pitcher for Friday’s game against St. Bonaventure.
Doyle led Pinkerton Academy to the NHIAA Division I championship in his senior season, when he went 7-2 and struck out 125 batters in 61.2 innings pitched.
