
MANSFIELD, Mass. – Southern New Hampshire University sophomore Nater Wachter (Concord, N.H.) was chosen as the NE10 Player of the Week on Monday, while freshman Jackson Marshall (Hooksett, N.H.) claimed Rookie of the Week honors, both for the period ending March 9.
The Penmen went 3-2 on a five-game trip to Cary, N.C., last week, as they outscored their opponents, 53-25.
Wachter went 11 for 20 (.550) with seven extra-base hits and five walks. Wachter homered, drove in nine runs and scored seven times, He was 3 for 6 with four RBIs and two runs scored in a doubleheader sweep of St. Thomas Aquinas College on Friday, went 6 for 10 with a home run, five RBIs and four runs scored as SNHU split a twinbill with Mansfield University on Saturday, and then finished 2 for 4 with a run scored in a 4-3 loss to Dominican (N.Y.) University on Sunday.
Marshall, who also collected the Rookie of the Week award Feb. 24, went 9 for 21 (.429) at the plate with a home run, nine RBIs and six runs scored. In a 24-3 triumph over Mansfield in game one of Saturday’s doubleheader, Marshall finished 4 for 6 with a pair of extra-base hits, including a home run, four RBIs and three runs scored. He capped the trip to Cary by going 3 for 4 with an RBI versus Dominican.
In 11 games this season, Wachter is hitting .439 (18-41) with three home runs, 16 RBIs and 13 runs scored. He ranks third in the league in on-base percentage and walks (11), fourth in hits, slugging percentage, OPS, fifth in RBIs, sixth in home runs, eighth in batting average and ninth in runs.
Marshall is 15 for 42 (.357) with two home runs, 13 RBIs and eight runs scored. He’s sixth in the NE10 in RBIs and ninth in home runs.
Wachter, Marshall and the Penmen are off until next weekend when they play a three-game set at East Stroudsburg University, beginning with a Saturday (March 15) doubleheader that begins at noon.
