Fisher Cats 6, Sea Dogs 4

MANCHESTER – A four-run third inning and another home run from first baseman Dub Gleed fueled the New Hampshire Fisher Cats’ (15-19, 49-52) Tuesday win at Delta Dental Stadium against the Portland Sea Dogs (19-15, 54-48), 6-4. Gleed’s seventh-inning home run was his fourth in his last six games.

New Hampshire starter Alex Amalfi tossed four innings and allowed two runs on five hits with five strikeouts. Reliever Angel Obando (W, 1-0) delivered four innings of one-run ball and totaled seven strikeouts. Obando’s seven punchouts were a single-game career high.

Right-hander Yondrei Rojas (SV, 2) allowed a run but notched the save.

Sea Dogs starter Jeremy Wu-Yelland fired two perfect innings against the Cats. Reliever Caleb Bolden (L, 2-5) was tagged for four runs on six hits in two innings.

New Hampshire scored first in the bottom of the third. With one out, catcher Jacob Sharp walked and right fielder Carter Cunningham singled. A wild pitch by Sea Dogs pitcher Caleb Bolden allowed both runners to advance. With runners in second and third, a second wild pitch allowed Sharp to score, which put the Fisher Cats on the board first, 1-0. Second baseman J.R. Freethy doubled on a line and put the Fisher Cats up 2-0. The Cats’ momentum kept going. The next batter, shortstop Nick Goodwin ripped an RBI double. Two batters later, left fielder Hedbert Perez rolled an RBI single which gave the Cats a 4-0 advantage.

Portland rallied in the fourth. Catcher Johanfran Garcia (13) launched a homer and put the Sea Dogs on the board. Following the home run, shortstop Mason White singled and left fielder Max Ferguson walked. With two on base, center fielder Miguel Bleis cracked an RBI single, which cut the Sea Dogs deficit to 4-2.

The Sea Dogs scored another run in the top of the seventh. Bleis singled and right fielder Nelly Taylor walked. A wild pitch allowed both runners to advance. Second baseman Yoeilin Cespedes grounded out, which brought Bleis in from third, 4-3.

In the seventh, Goodwin worked a leadoff walk for the Cats. Gleed (7) swatted a two-run homer that made it 6-3. In the top of the ninth, Portland’s Bleis (10) homered, but New Hampshire secured the win soon after.

The Fisher Cats and Sea Dogs continue their six-game series on Wednesday with a 12:05 p.m. first pitch. Lefty Dalton Rogers (1-3, 5.26 ERA) will start for Portland and New Hampshire’s starter is TBD.
