Legion: Bedford wins opener

Bedford Post 54 opened the Northeast Regional Tournament with an 11-0 victory over Franklin, Mass., at Fitton Field in Worcester, Mass., Thursday.
Noah Durham collected two hits and two RBIs for Bedford, which won the New Hampshire state tournament last week. James Gilbert and Demetrious Hunt each drove in two runs for Bedford.
Jaiden Bosquet earned the win for tossing 2.2 innings of relief. Bedford starting pitcher Zach Papik pitched the first four innings. He gave up one hit, walked two and struck out five.
Bedford scored three runs in the first, four in the second, two in the sixth and two in the seventh. Franklin was limited to two hits and committed four errors.
Ethan Strand and Jack Hinton each scored twice for Bedford, which will play the winner of Thursday night’s game between Sanford, Maine, and Shrewsbury, Mass., on Friday.
