Bedford Post 54 wins regional title

Bedford Post 54 won the American Legion Baseball Northeast Regional by defeating Essex Junction, Vt., 12-3 Sunday at Fitton Field in Worcester, Mass.
The victory earned Bedford a spot in the American Legion World Series, which will be played Aug. 13-18 in Shelby, N.C.
Bedford had to beat Essex twice Sunday to win the regional, and forced a second game by winning 10-1 earlier in the day.
James Gilbert collected four hits and five RBIs in the Game 2 victory. Post 54 also received three hits and four RBIs from Jaiden Bosquet.
Noah Durham earned the win for pitching the first six innings. He limited Essex Junction to three runs on two hits. Bosquet pitched a scoreless seventh.
Bedford took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first when Gilbert hit a two-run double that drove in Jack Hinton and Durham.
Vermont led 3-2 after two, but Bedford scored three runs in the third. After Gilbert drove in Durham with a single, Bosquet came up with a two-run single that scored Jason Topf and Demetrios Hunt.
Gilbert scored on Durham’s single to make it 6-3 in the fourth, and it was 7-3 after Bosquet’s single scored Brayden Hickman in the fifth.
Topf drove in Gilbert with a single in the sixth, and Bedford received two-run singles from Bosquet and Gilbert in the seventh.
