BOX SCORE

STANDOUT PERFORMERS

  • Henrie also walked and scored the one run.
  • Gomes (1-1) worked three innings out of the ‘pen, allowing just one hit, while striking out two and walking a pair.
  • Redshirt-junior Joshua Goldstein (Haverhill, Mass.) was 1-for-3 with a walk and two RBI.
  • Fellow redshirt-junior Sean Doherty (Haverhill, Mass.) went 2-for-3 and scored a run.
  • Sophomore Jeffrey Praml (Bridgewater, N.J.) earned his third save in the last two days, as he needed one pitch and the help of his defense to end the game and secure his fourth save of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Molloy went in front, 1-0, in the bottom of the first against graduate student Chris Murphy (Billerica, Mass.) when two singles and a walk loaded the bases, and a two-out, bases-loaded walk forced in the game’s first run.
  • Southern New Hampshire answered with two in the top of the second, as junior Jake Coro (Johnston, R.I.) worked a lead-off walk and Doherty singled, setting the stage for Goldstein’s two-out, two-run single to center that put the Penmen on top, 2-1. They would strand a pair in scoring position in the frame.
  • SNHU made it 3-1 in the fifth, with senior Joshua Zbierski (Stafford Springs, Conn.) drawing a lead-off walk, moving to second and then third on a wild pitch, before scoring on a sacrifice fly to center off the bat of sophomore Dakota Mulcay (Goffstown, N.H.).
  • Back-to-back one-out singles in the sixth put runners at the corners for Molloy in the sixth, when Jake Saltzman lifted a sac fly to left that pulled the Lions within one. Thomas Brady, who moved up to third on the sac fly, scored on a wild pitch to tie the game. After a two-out walk to Michael Wall, Gomes entered from the bullpen and promptly made it out of the inning with a pick-off throw to first.
  • The Penmen then went ahead in the seventh with a pick-off throw to first at the center of it all. Henrie’s one-out infield single put him aboard, before he came all the way around to score when an errant pick-off attempt made it by the first baseman and up the line.
  • Gomes used another pick off to face the minimum in the seventh and then notched a 1-2-3 eighth. He had two outs in the ninth with two on, when Praml came on in relief to face Jake McCarthy. McCarthy clubbed one to left, but freshman Alex Kennedy (Braintree, Mass.), who had just went to left field in the seventh, laid out and made a terrific diving catch to save the game.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Zbierski finished 1-for-4 with a walk and a run scored.
  • Coro was officially 0-for-0, but walked three times and scored a run
  • Murphy relinquished three runs on five hits over five-and-two-thirds innings, while striking out three and walking four.
