Walkinshaw earns NE-10 honor

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Graduate student Jake Walkinshaw (Seymour, Conn.) of the ninth-ranked Southern New Hampshire University baseball team was chosen as the Northeast-10 Pitcher of the Week for the period ending March 17, the conference office announced Monday.

Walkinshaw, who also earned the accolade Feb. 25 and March 11, turned in another superb start in SNHU’s 12-1 victory over Adelphi University on Saturday to polish off a 5-2 week. For the second straight outing, Walkinshaw struck out a career-best 13 and did not walk a batter, as he allowed one run on just three hits in eight innings. Walkinshaw, who retired 10 straight from the second to the fifth inning and capped his outing by setting down 11-in-a-row, limited the Panthers to a .107 batting average.

Through five starts, Walkinshaw is 3-0 with a 2.38 ERA, after allowing nine runs on 27 hits in 34 innings, while striking out 40 and walking six. He leads the conference in wins, strikeouts and innings pitched, while ranking fifth in strikeouts per game (10.59), sixth in hits and 14th in ERA.

Walkinshaw and the Penmen are back in action Saturday (March 23) against Southern Connecticut State University in a noon doubleheader.
