Normand named NECC’s top player
MANSFIELD, Mass. – The New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) announced its 2022 Baseball All-Conference teams and major award winners on Wednesday afternoon. The conference coaches voted on the awards following the conclusion of the regular season. New England College headlined the selections, capturing three major awards and eight total honorees.
NECC Player of the Year – JD Normand, New England Col. (So., C/DH, Auburn, N.H..)
Sophomore JD Normand led the Pilgrims to a 9-3 regular-season conference record and the No. 1 seed in the 2022 NECC Tournament. His .455 batting average, .788 slugging percentage, and .561 on-base percentage in league competition were all tops in the NECC. He also led the league with 15 RBI in league play. He was second in the league in hits (15) and home runs (2) against NECC foes. Normand was a two-time 2022 NECC Player of the Week selection (weeks ending 4/3/22 and 5/1/22).
NECC Pitcher of the Year – Shayne Audet, New England Col. (Jr., P, Springfield, Mass.)
Junior Shayne Audet helped the Pilgrims to a 9-3 conference record, landing the top seed in the conference tournament. The senior was top in the league in total (73) and strikeouts per game (15.16). His strikeouts per game are seventh-best in NCAA Division III. He finished with a 1.25 ERA, good for second in the league and eighth in NCAA Division III. In conference play, his 0.75 ERA led the NECC. He only allowed conference opponents to hit .104 against him, which was best in the league. He was a three-time NECC Pitcher of the Week selection (weeks ending 3/27/22, 4/24/22, and 5/1/22).
Coach of the Year – Terry Doyle, New England College
Under the guidance of Doyle, the Pilgrims went 9-3 in conference play to land the top seed in the upcoming NECC Baseball Championship. With Doyle at the helm, New England College boasted the league’s most potent offense, leading the NECC with a .330 batting average in league play and a league-leading .427 on-base .488 slugging percentage. The Pilgrims also led the league in doubles (25), triples (4), home runs (8), and RBI (85) in conference action. Doyle placed eight student-athletes on the all-conference team, including the Player and Pitcher of the Year and a Del Malloy Sportsmanship honoree. This is Doyle’s first NECC Coach of the Year Award.
Shaun Cormier, Harutaro Takahashi, Connor Morin, Devin Parsons, Brady Philibotte, and Michael Ciccotelli join Audet and Normand on the All-Conference Team. Cormier threw 57.1 innings with 51 strikeouts to just nine walks. He supported a 3.77 ERA with a 5-3 record. Takahashi batted .348 with two triples and 17 RBI. Connor Morin was one of the top hitters in the Pilgrims’ lineup. He supported a .330 batting average, with ten doubles, five home runs, and 31 RBI. Parsons had a .330 batting average, while ten of his 13 RBI came in conference action. Philibotte shined in his first season in Henniker, as he batted .275 with two home runs and 21 RBI; the Weare, N.H. native paced NEC in runs scored (34) and walks (19). Ciccotelli was solid in the outfield, as he has a .346 batting average, with one home run, 11 doubles, and 19 RBI.
Sylvain Audet was the New England College recipient of the Del Malloy Sportsmanship team.
NEC will host the NECC Baseball Tournament on Friday, May 6th, and Saturday, May 6th, at 9:30 am against Lesley University.
