Oxford, Florida State extend season

Durham resident Brennan Oxford pitched the final two innings to help Florida State (48-16) beat Virginia (46-17) 7-3 in an elimination game Sunday at the College World Series.

Oxford, who attended Oyster River High School, limited Virginia to one hit. Oxford is 2-1 with a 3.31 ERA in 31 appearances (54.1 innings) this season.

Oxford was the 2017 New Hampshire Gatorade Player of the Year. He played at Wake Forest before transferring to Florida State.

Florida State will play North Carolina on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
